“your mammogram is normal”

"We're pleased to tell you, your mammogram is normal"

Probably the best words I've heard all year. Last night was my first annual mammogram following my breast cancer diagnosis and single mastectomy last year. And to say I was nervous is an understatement. If you've ever had a serious health problem, you'll know that scanxiety is all too real. And getting that result was the best Christmas present I could ask for.

In the UK, only women over the age of 50 are offered routine mammograms (every 3 years). However, if you have any concerns about your breasts, you may be offered one too. And like smear tests, if you are able to have regular mammograms, you absolutely should have them. I'm living proof that early detection saves lives.
